OBERON
(A Fairy's Tale)

Prologue

A
It was so very long ago; the memory
Of it is as a broken mirror cast
Upon the beach, and the true history
Of the affair is now distorted past
Retrieval. Parts of the events are blurry,
Or, buried deep beneath the sand, are lost.
Between the Myths and Propaganda lies
A shadow image, truth in a disguise.

B
Now often those who witnessed some event
Are gone, and tales are handed down in lore
By some misleading sources (false and bent),
They give the powerful and wealthy more
Of glory than they attained or spent
On the occasion. It was the poor
Who did the most to safeguard fairyland
From those who would destroy our fragile band.

C
I'll tell you what in that dark age was done.
So you will see that things are much the same
In this sad era of deception run
By greed and lust, haunted by fear and pain.
My beating heart won't let me dare postpone
My telling you the fragments that remain
Of the true story of the horrid thing
Twixt satyres, elementals and the fairy King.

D
Hail Muse! Your help I desperately need.
From noble ages past come rescue me.
I hold such delicate a poet's reed;
From these sad lines you easily can see.
Upon the edge of Chaos my bold seed
Now pushes upward desperately to be
More than I ever could achieve before,
To make a poem to last 4 Evr more.
